Kudal is a central place in Sindhudurg district in the Konkan province of Maharashtra. Kudal city is the headquarter of Kudal taluka and Kudal taluka is the second largest in Sindhudurg district in terms of population. HISTORY OF KUDAL:-
In earlier times, the administration of the province of Kudaldesh (Ratnagiri to Goa) was administered from Kudal. Kudaldestha Prabhu was deshmukh in this region. This ruler saw many struggles. In the early period, this region was influenced by Hindu kings. Later Adil Shah of Bijapur gained supremacy here. He also appointed Desai or Deshmukh. Kudaldestha Prabhu was the head of governance here.
Lakhan Sawant was a Desai of the province known as Kudal . The province of Kudal is said to have been attacked on 23 May 1663, and a Dutch letter from Vengurla on 04 November 1663 states that the Maharaja attacked the Portuguese with 4,000 cavalry and 10,000 infantry. After that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj appointed Raoji Pandit as Subhedar of Kudal before returning to Raigad.
Kudal is situated on the Karli river in southwestern Maharashtra. After big talukas like Sawantwadi, Kankavali, Malvan in Sindhudurg district, Kudal ranks “fourth” in Sindhudurg district.

KUDAL PLACES TO VISIT IN KUDAL:-
1. Kudaleshwar Temple (kudaleshwar temple) :-
Kudaleshwar Temple is situated in Lakshmi Wadi. This temple is open 24 hours for devotees. The Kudaleshwar temple is situated on a small hill in the town of Kudal in Sindhudurga. The facade of the temple has a beautifully carved lamp. There are small temples on the left and right sides of the entrance to the assembly hall.
The assembly hall of the temple has been renovated recently. Tarang can be seen on the right side. The seven tarangs of Mahalakshmi, Baracha Purva, Kudaleshwar, Pavnai, Bhairav and Jogeshwari are considered important. Shree Dev Kudaleshwar is in the inner part of the temple. In the core of the temple are Samadevi, Pavanai, Garuda Tattva, Chalya Adhikari, Pawar Vasa, Purvena Brahmin, Maya Purve. Shri Dev Someshwar is in pindi form. The black stone idol of Shri Kudaleshwar is four feet tall.
2. Thakar Adivasi Kala Aangan (thakar kala angan ) :-
Padmashri Parashuram Gangavane is from Pinguli-Gudhipur. He has an important contribution in preserving the folk art of the Thakar community. He sacrificed his life to preserve the art form of Chitrakathi, Kalasutri Dolls. Due to his passion for spreading art, he played Kalasutri doll games all over the country. In order to preserve the Kalsutri art form, he created a Kala Angan in his village Pinguli-Gudhipur. Tourists from home and abroad visit that place. Mr. Gangawane has been working to preserve and spread the traditional folk art of the tribal Thakar community for the last 45 years. He performed this folk art under difficult circumstances.
Thakar Adivasi Kala Angan Museum & Art Gallery is a tribal folk art museum in Sindhudurg district which was started on 3 May 2006. He started this museum in a cattle shed. This art, which was patronized by Shivaji Maharaj, disappeared with the passage of time. He worked to preserve that art.
Traditional folk arts of the Thakar tribal community of Sindhudurg such as Kalsutri dolls, Chitrakathi, Leather dolls, Pangul bull, Dona instrument, Gandal, Potraj are arranged in this museum. Both Gangavane and his sons are doing the work of preservation and conservation of folk art. While preserving and promoting this folk art, he has been appointed as a guru for Chitrakathi and Kalasutri Dolls by the Department of Culture, Government of India.
Gangawane family belongs to Thakar tribal community. This family belongs to the Thakar community in Raigad district of Thane. Their ancestors migrated south for sustenance and later settled here.
Gangawane has now set up a well-equipped museum at Pinguli. They also conduct 2-3 days workshop at the same place. Art college students’ workshops are also organized at Pinguli. Pune and Mumbai also conduct special games and workshops. A beautiful display of special tribal instruments, musical instruments, costumes, heroba, paintings used for Chitrakathi, etc. is presented at Pinguli Thakar Tribal Art Centre.
An amazing gallery of art opens before us. This exhibition can be seen by paying a certain fee. At the same time, games of Kalasutri dolls are also shown here.
In fact Chitrakathi, Kalasutri Dolls programs should be performed on the occasion of birthdays, various ceremonies and so on. This means both keeping the art alive and encouraging these artists by giving them financial compensation will be achieved. Nowadays various games are played in small ceremonies as well. If this art is presented there, it will help to bring our cultural heritage to the people. The Government of India has honored Gangawane with PADMASHREE award.

3. Thakarwadi museum :-
The President’s award winner Ganpat Sakharam Masge and his highly educated son Krishna and their entire family have made a beautiful Thakar Folk Art Museum, who are constantly striving to bring the rich folk art of the Thakar community, which is the adornment of Sindhudurg district, to the masses and preserve it.
Here we got all the information about the arts of Kalsutri Bahulya, Chitrakathi, Kalbahuli, Pingali, Dona Geet, Gangal and Phugadi and the art works created for the Thakar community. Artist Krishna has cultivated these arts. Puppetry is one of the oldest forms of art-entertainment that still exists and is loved by people of all ages. The purpose of celebrating World Puppetry Day is to promote and encourage the interest of children and youth towards the comic-arts-entertainment form.
Thakarwadi Museum in Pinguli and Masge Parivar His family has been cultivating the art of Kalsutri dolls for many generations.
Actually there are four types of dolls in the art of puppetry in Pinguli Kalsutri, Chitrakathi, leather dolls, and all the artists who make these puppets are called Bavlekar. Thakar is a tribal artist cultivating all these arts with him.
Mr. Krishna Masge, the artist of new generation, has came up with an idea of modernization of the puppet and shadow art. He has created an amazing drama on SWATANTRYAWEER SAWARKAR.
4. Sai Mandir Kavilkate (sai mandir, kavilkate):-
Kavilkate is a village half a mile west of Kudal railway station in Sindhudurg district. There is a beautiful temple of Shri Sai Baba in Sai Nagar of this village. Seeing the beautiful statues of Sai Baba in this temple is an immense pleasure to the eyes and the peaceful atmosphere here provides peace to the devotees. The construction of this temple is sufficient proof of Sri Sai’s presence.
A resident of Kavilkate. Ramachandra Madye was a devotee of Datta. This temple was built by Sri Ramchandra Raoji Madye, Baba gave him one rupee and with that one rupee in 1919 the death anniversary was celebrated everywhere in Kudal. And in 1922 he built Baba’s temple at Kudal.
History of the Temple:
He had a vision that Lord Dutt was residing in Shirdi in the form of Sai. And that is why this servant of Datta who was always engrossed in chanting the name of Sri Gurudev Datta turned to Shirdi. When he first saw Sri Sai, he was overwhelmed and almost lost his sanity. This devotee was extremely happy to meet Dutt. Then Sai Baba gave him one rupee. They kept it as it was, as it was a treasure of little value. He then took many residents of Kudal with him to Shirdi and gave them the benefit of Sai Darshan.
In 1918, Sai Baba took Mahasamadhi on Vijayadashami, Tuesday, October 15. In 1919, Baba’s first death anniversary was celebrated in public for the first time in Kudal apart from Shirdi under the supervision of Madye Bua. This time he used one rupee given by Baba. Then, on Sai Baba’s fourth death anniversary in 1922, Madye Bua built the actual Sai Temple. He installed a six feet idol of Sai Baba, the idol of Shri Baburao Sarang.
After Baba’s mahasamadhi, as per his wish, his mortal body was kept at Batti Wada in Shirdi and a tomb was erected over it. A photo frame was placed there. After 36 years in 1954 Mr. A five and a half feet statue of Balaji Vasant Talim was installed in the Samadhi Temple of Shirdi. Late Shri Nagesh Atmaram Sawant was actively associated with the installation of the statue. He was the manager of Sai Institute for a long time. In an article written by him called ‘Shri Sailila’ he has told about the Madye Buwa temple of Kudal.
In 1983, the temple built by Dattadas Madye Bua was renovated and a seven and a half feet idol was installed by Shri Sham Sarang i.e. the son of Shri Baburao Sarang. From 1922 to 1946 the temple was managed by Dattadas Madye Bua and from 1946 to 1999 by his son Shripad Madye and then by his great grandson Shri Rajan Madye.

5. Sant Raul Maharaj Math, Pinguli (rawool maharaj math):-
Devotee Vatsal of Sant Raul Maharaj Math, Pinguli Kudal Pinguli. Raul Maharaj’s handsome memorial has been erected by his disciple Vinayak Anna Raul Maharaj and his devotees after his Mahanirvana. There is an idol of Raul Maharaj and the temple area is very beautiful.
In the year 1905, Shri Samarth Raul Maharaj was born in a small village in Pinguli, Kudal Taluka, in the Raul family, which is the mankari of Shri Dev Rawalnath. Mr. Appaji Gopalrao Raul and Mrs. The child born to Savitri Appaji Raul was given the foster name “Krishna” and as “Aba” and an Avaliya saint was named as Shri Samarth Raul Maharaj. His Samadhi temple was built by Shri Samarth Anna Maharaj in the Pinguli area which he considered as Tapobhumi.
6. Shri Lakshminarayan Temple, walawal (lakshmi narayan mandir ):-
Shree Lakshminarayan Temple, 15 km from city, is a fine example of Hemadpanthi architecture. Valaval village surrounded by dense forest and the beautiful and calm lake next to the temple adds to the beauty of the temple. Experts say that this temple is about eight hundred years ago. This temple was built in the 14th century by the mighty brothers Suryabhan and Chandrabhan Prabhudesai. His memorials stand as Kalyan Purusha near the Deepmalas in front of Sri Lakshminarayan Temple.
This temple is facing east and its structure is three tiered. The main temple is ancient and completely teak has been used in the construction of this temple. The ladi installed at that time in the assembly hall shows the skill of the craftsmen.
The carved pillars in this very ancient temple are beautiful and the temple has a very beautiful and handsome idol of Sri Laxminaraya. The hall of the temple is spacious and carvings are also found on the stone pillars and beams. The main door is low in height and is carved with wonderful lotus flowers. The gatekeeper in front of the temple as well as the idol of Vishnu on the head are also spectacular. The surrounding area of the temple is also scenic.
Adjacent to the temple is a lake with blooming lotus flowers enticing the devotees. It is said that the people of the village have no fear of that lake. But the outsiders are definitely dragged away by it. There have been some cases. That is why the outsiders don’t usually enter the lake. There is a nine-day yatra on Ramnavami. It is a village custom that no person of Walawal village visits Pandharpur.
People there experience that Shri Dev Narayan Devasthan is awake. It is said that in the past ‘Simhanad’ was used in the core of the Narayan idol in the temple. The carvings on the mahavdar of the temple and the six stone pillars of the inner hall are exquisite examples of ancient sculpture. At the center of each pillar are beautiful circular carvings of deities. The design of the temple, the idols and carvings of the Navagraha deities on the door and pillars are very neat and beautiful and are worth researching closely.
The 6th century name of Walawal village was Ballavalli. Due to the densely forested mountains, valleys, and the Kurli river flowing from the north of the village, the village has been inaccessible like a forest fortress since ancient times. Therefore, Rajerjwade, officials of this area have taken shelter of this village since ancient times. In the 11th century AD, Shilahar kings lived in this place. Later, from the Vijayanagar period to the Bahmani and later Bijapur rule, the Prabhudesai dynasty held the fiefdom of village. He also lived in Walawal village.
Muslims captured Goa in 11th century AD. At that time, Brahmins brought the idol of Shri Dev Naroba from Harmal village in Pedne Mahal in Goa to Walawal village. At that time Chandrabhan and Suryabhan were the officers here.
He built the temple of Narayana and gave the income of Valavali village to the temple. A shrine of Kalyan Purusha, who founded the temple, has been built between the lamp posts in front of the temple. The time of establishment of Lakshmi Narayan temple should be around 1350 to 1400 AD. The construction of the temple is of Chalukya style and the construction of the original temple was added.
The breathtaking natural beauty, the mind-blowing picturesque surroundings, the life-giving river karli! And Sridev Rawalnath is located near the Shree Lakshminarayan Mandir, which preserves this mangle and sanctity, situated at a height and about three-four km from there. Long Mauli Temple! 7. Dreamland Garden :-
Dreamland Garden is situated in Pinguli village. The place is surrounded by natural beauty which makes Dreamland Garden a center of attraction for tourists due to its enchanting scenery and lush greenery.
Dreamland Garden opens for tourists at 7 am and closes at 8 pm.. The garden is closed on mondays.
The entry fee to enter Dreamland is around 100 rupees.
There is a park available in Dreamland where you can do fun activities.
8. Nerur Kaleshwar Temple (kaleshwar mandir nerur) :-
Five km from town in Sindhudurg district. Shree Dev Kaleshwar in the remote Nerur village is famous as one of the ancient temples. This shrine, which is non-differentiated between Shaiva and Vaishnava, is famous as a Jagurt shrine in every corner of Maharashtra. The word Kaleshwar means the god of art.
There is a Sridev Brahmanath temple beside this temple and there is a tradition that it is important to have the darshan of Brahmanath after the darshan of Kaleshwar. The beauty of this temple is further enhanced by the Rangani mountain on the sides and the Kaleshwar lake nearby.
The temple of Shri Dev Kaleshwar is very beautiful and decorated with carvings. The Shivpindi is square in shape. A unique feature of this temple is the statue of Shukracharya in front of Ganapati on the right side of Shivlinga and Nandi on the left i.e. between Pindi and Nandi. The temple has six pillars decorated with amazing carvings.
Adjacent to this temple is another temple, that of Shri Brahmadeva. There are not many temples of Lord Brahma. So this temple is very unique and a must visit.
Next to Brahma are deities Vishnu, Lakshmi, Savitri and Gayatri. It is considered to be a famous Jagartu shrine having temples of three deities namely Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Other family deities are established in separate shrines around the temple.

9. Sarsoli Dham (Sarsoli Dham, Nerur):-
Sarsoli Dham is located in Kavilgaon village of Kudal Taluka in Sindhudurga. Sarsoli Dham is the only monastery of the Sindhi community in Konkan, three kilometers from Kudal railway station. The monastery is a few minutes away from the famous Sai Temple of Kavilgaon. This monastery is spread over 30 acres of land. Its creation and management goes to a Sindhi family living in London. He has built this monastery in the memory of Sai Leela Shah.
There is a small temple of Sai Leela Shah on the left after entering through the main door. There is an assembly hall in front of this temple. Prasad is arranged in this hall every day from 12.30 pm to 2.00 pm and from 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm. The monastery premises are surrounded by beautiful greenery. This Dham has a beautiful temple with idols of Sai Leela Shah, Dev Jhulelal, Guru Nanak along with Ganesha, Shri Ram, Lakshmana, Sita, Hanuman, Shiva Parvati, Shri Krishna. There is also a Goshala in this Dham. A beautiful lake has also been constructed in front of the temple. Do visit this very scenic and peaceful place at least once.
10. Mamacho Gaon Hirlok (mamacho gaon hirlok) :-
Dalan in agriculture and rural tourism is mama’s village. Which is situated at Hirlok. It is an agro tourism destination. A beautiful architecture conceptualized by Anant Sawant, Mama’s Village is a place of spiritual peace with bliss in the midst of nature. A temple of Saibaba which is a fine architectural example is also located in Mama’s village for tourists and devotees. Mama’s village is a village that takes children, families and tourists who are far from the village from the hustle and bustle of life to a happy, peaceful and scenic environment.

11. Humarmala Rameshwar Temple (rameshwar temple, humarmala) :-
Humarmala is small in Kudal taluka; But a flourishing village full of natural resources. Under the umbrella of Shri Dev Rameshwar, the development of this village continues. This village is hilly and in this place hill slope agriculture, rice, groundnut and vegetables are grown. There are a lot of vegetable gardens in this area. 12. Rath in Sri Dev Rameshwar Temple :-
Along with all these things, the village has also benefited from religious culture. The Rath of Sri Dev Rameshwar temple here is very famous. On Shivratri, Shivarathotsav is celebrated with great enthusiasm at this place. Devotees from Mumbai, Goa and Sindhudurga attend in large numbers on this occasion. The hill of Kupi next to the village is a tourist spot. Tourists come and go here.
There is a big waterfall at Padoswadi in this village. Rappelling on this waterfall has been arranged by a private company. Dattakanoba Math is located at this place. Various religious programs are held at that place.
13. Shri Datta Mandir, Mangaon (shri datta mandir mangaon) :-
Mangaon is the seat of Datta sect. A grand temple of Tembye Swamy has been erected there. Moreover, the Datta Mandir established by him is a place of worship for devotees. Trustees have built an up-to-date Dharamshala. Accomodation is available there. Akeri – Mangaon Dutt Mandir’s “Siddha’s Cave” on the hill can be called an artistic invention of nature. Away from the hustle and bustle
Tourists come from far and wide to see this place of meditation. This cave of Siddha is very spectacular. This cave can be seen in the south-west direction of the Datta temple. It is thousands of years old. This cave is about fifteen feet long and there is enough space to walk around in the cave.
It is 14 km from Kudal. Sri Dattatreya’s Morning: The Birthplace of Sri Vasudevananda Saraswati Tembe Swami’s Memorable Chaturthavatar. This land gave us two good men namely Sri Tembe Swami Maharaj and his brother Sitaram Swami. Although the said village is very small, it is a sacred land.
In front of this temple there is an ancient Yakshini temple. Sri Vasudeva was born in Mangavi to fulfill the promise given by Maharaja in the book Yakshini Mahatmya. This Yakshini temple is a very enlightening place.
14. Aajol Medical Tourism Nerur (aajol, medical center, nerur) :-
Ajol means the house of grandparents. Ajol Nerur, Kudal was started here on May 25, 2011 and the elderly people are living longer because of the good care there. 15. Shri. Kelbai Devi Temple Kudal:-
Nerur is the adjacent villge ofthis city. Kaleshwar And Shakti Kelbai and Maya Mahalakshmi of Kudaleshwar (Rawalnath) stay here. Jogeshwari, the goddess of the Jogians, Bhairav and Vetal were the generals of Rawalnath. Kelbai Devi’s left side is Kudal part and right side is Nerur. She is called Kalbai, Kalika and Kaleshwar God is called Kaloba.
